LOS ANGELES (AP) Police and school officials say a walk-on punter for No. 20 UCLA has been arrested for investigation of rape.
Los Angeles police said Friday that Adam Searl’s arrest came after an investigation lasting nearly a year.
Police say that last October, a UCLA student reported that she had met the suspect at an off-campus party and he returned home with her. She told investigators she awoke to find him sexually assaulting her.
The 20-year-old Searl was arrested on campus Thursday and booked on suspicion of three counts of rape.
Police did not know if he’d retained an attorney, and a phone listing for Searl could not be found.
UCLA coach Jim Mora said in a statement that Searl has been suspended indefinitely and the team is taking the allegations very seriously.
