BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - UAB coach Garrick McGee has replaced defensive coordinator Reggie Johnson.
McGee promoted assistant head coach and linebackers coach Jimmy Williams on Sunday, a day after the Blazers lost 37-23 to Florida Atlantic.
UAB (1-4) gave up 579 total yards in the game. The Blazers rank 118th nationally in scoring defense, giving up 41.4 points a game.
They're 114th in total yards allowed, at 481 per game.
McGee says he feels ``this move at this time gives us a chance this week against FIU, and for the rest of the season, to accomplish our goals.''
He did not say if Johnson was fired or demoted. Asked for specifics, UAB spokesman Norm Reilly said McGee will address the situation Monday at his weekly news conference.
