TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -The chairman of the Florida State University trustees wants Bobby Bowden to retire at the end of this season.
Jim Smith said Monday the arrangement with Bowden as head coach and his successor, Jimbo Fisher, as offensive coordinator isn’t working.
Trustees like Smith don’t have immediate authority over coaches, but they hold significant sway. They are the bosses of university president T.K. Wetherell, who does choose coaches.
Smith said fundraising has slowed significantly, and the school has an obligation to fans and alumni to be competitive.
However, he said he doesn’t think a decision should be made until the end of the season.
The Seminoles fell to 2-3 Saturday after losing at Boston College.
