COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -While Steve Spurrier says South Carolina doesn’t pay much attention to college football polls, he would rather his Gamecocks be in one than out.
For the first time this season, the Gamecocks broke into the AP Top 25 on Sunday – slipping into the final slot. South Carolina beat South Carolina State 38-14 on Saturday.
The Gamecocks (4-1, 1-1 SEC) have been ranked at least one week in four of Spurrier’s five seasons with the program. They were 24th last Nov. 9, but dropped out the following week after a 56-6 defeat at Florida and had never been back.
Spurrier had not heard about the ranking when he talked to media members Sunday.
