BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) -Arizona State quarterback Rudy Carpenter left Memorial Stadium on crutches after apparently injuring his left leg late in the Sun Devils’ 24-14 loss to California on Saturday.
Carpenter said he hurt his left ankle, but provided no specifics about when or where the injury occurred. He played the entire game despite taking a few hard hits, but the senior appeared to be limping slightly in the final minutes of Arizona State’s failed comeback.
“I don’t really want to talk about it until I find out,” he said.
If Carpenter is seriously injured, Arizona State’s trip to Southern California next Saturday will be even more daunting. The Sun Devils’ offense has been awful during its first three-game losing streak in coach Dennis Erickson’s two-year tenure, scoring just 44 total points.
Carpenter was 20-of-35 for 165 yards and two interceptions against Cal.
