No one is more excited than Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez about No. 8 Nebraska visiting the seventh-ranked Badgers on Saturday night for the Cornhuskers’ inaugural Big Ten game.
Alvarez coached the Badgers for 16 years and built the program in the image of Nebraska, where he played under Bob Devaney from 1965-67. He turned the program over to Bret Bielema in 2006.
Wisconsin and Nebraska football is predicated on toughness. The states produce the burly boys who anchor the lines, and the schools recruit nationally for speed and skill.
Both Nebraska and Wisconsin traditionally go into games intent on outmuscling and wearing down the opponent.
Alvarez will be the Badgers’ honorary captain Saturday. He said it’s the most anticipated game ever at Camp Randall Stadium.
