BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) – A grand jury has reduced charges against suspended LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson to a misdemeanor for his involvement in a bar fight, increasing the likelihood of his reinstatement to the top-ranked Tigers.
Jefferson is now charged with simple battery. The grand jury Wednesday also cleared reserve linebacker Josh Johns of charges.
Jefferson and Johns were arrested and booked with second-degree battery in the Aug. 19 fight, after which four men sought treatment at hospitals.
Wearing a grey suit and tie, Jefferson arrived earlier Wednesday with his attorney, Lewis Unglesby.
Johns’ lawyer, Thomas Damico, says his client appeared before the grand jury for an hour Wednesday morning. Damico says Johns always maintained he is innocent and there was a case of mistaken identity.
