STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) -No. 5 Penn State’s star linebacker Sean Lee has a sprained left knee.
A team spokesman said his availability for practice is day to day.
Lee appeared to hurt the knee during the first half of last week’s 31-6 win over Temple. He stayed in the game until midway through the fourth quarter, when he limped off to the sideline.
The team captain returned to the field this year after missing 2008 with a right knee injury.
It would be a big blow for the Nittany Lions defense if Lee cannot play in Saturday’s Big Ten opener against Iowa.
Penn State also has been without its other top linebacker, Navorro Bowman, for most of the season because of a sore right groin.
