M tight end Martellus Bennett wore a No. 85 jersey against Miami on Thursday night, continuing his tribute to injured Buffalo Bills tight end Kevin Everett, who played for the Hurricanes.
M teammates wanted him to stay in No. 85, Bennett said.
Bennett, who originally committed to Miami during the recruiting process and has remained close friends with Everett, wore No. 13 earlier in the season for the 20th-ranked Aggies.
Everett suffered a life-threatening spinal cord injury in Buffalo's season-opener Sept. 9. He will be transferred Friday morning to a Houston hospital to begin the next phase of his rehabilitation, and doctors said Thursday they believe he will be walking within weeks.
