Florida Atlantic’s long-awaited football stadium is now a reality.
The state’s Board of Governors has unanimously approved plans for the $69.8 million project, and the stadium on FAU’s campus in Boca Raton, Fla. will be built to eventually hold up to 30,000 seats.
Plans call for the stadium to open sometime during the Owls’ 2011 season.
Thursday’s vote was the final hurdle. The Board of Governors, a panel overseeing Florida’s 11 public universities, voted to approve a $44.585 million financing plan. Another $20.3 million for the project will be paid in cash from various university reserves, and the final $4.9 million from other projects.
Construction will begin next month.
