HOUSTON (AP) -Houston quarterback Case Keenum left Friday night’s game against UTEP with an undisclosed injury.
Late in the third quarter with Houston leading 37-17, Keenum was intercepted by Travaun Nixon. The quarterback tried to make a tackle on the play and was one of two Houston players slow to get up. Nixon returned the ball to the Cougars’ 10-yard line, while Keenum and receiver James Cleveland stayed on the field and waited for trainers.
Both walked off the field under their own power, but Keenum was replaced by Cotton Turner, who led the Cougars 80 yards on an 11-play drive that was capped by Bryce Beall’s third touchdown run of the game.
Keenum, who was unlikely to return Friday, was 15 of 24 for 265 yards and an interception.
