AUBURN, Ala. (AP) – Military personnel now have an avenue to some of the toughest tickets in college sports.
Gameday for Heroes in Columbus, Ga., collects donated tickets to fill requests from active duty or wounded veterans who want tickets. The nonprofit group was started two years ago by an Auburn fan club for those serving at Fort Benning.
Now its reach has spread via word of mouth and the Internet.
Last weekend, Gameday director Jana Tarleton says 102 tickets were handed out for the Auburn-Utah State game. Others went to fans at Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee and Texas Tech. Twenty-five tickets have been gathered for the Notre Dame-Air Force game next month.
Army Sgt. 1st Class Josh Olson, who lost a leg in Iraq, says “you never get tired of hearing thank you.”
