LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) -Todd Reesing threw for 257 yards and two touchdowns and Kansas scored on a 74-yard kick return and added two safeties Saturday night to beat overmatched Southeastern Louisiana 62-0.
The Jayhawks (2-0), who are playing all four of their nonconference games at home against opponents that figure to be big underdogs, rolled up 501 total yards to only 75 for Southeastern Louisiana.
The Lions (0-2), an FCS (formerly Division I-AA) program, have played two Big 12 teams since resuming their football program in 2003 and been outscored by Kansas and Texas Tech a combined 124-0.
It was Kansas' most lopsided win since a 71-14 clobbering of Cal-Northridge in 1999.
Partly because of the two safeties, the Lions, picked last in the Southland Conference, had minus-31 yards rushing. They averaged 1.2 yards per play.
In his first two games as a college starter, Reesing has hit 33 of 52 passes for 518 yards and six touchdowns and not thrown an interception or lost a fumble.
Brandon McAnderson scored two touchdowns, on runs of 4 and 2 yards, and Marcus Henry caught five passes for 119 yards, including a 66-yarder to set up Anderson's first TD. Jake Sharp also scored two touchdowns for the Jayhawks.
Kansas got started with a safety when the Lions snapped the ball over the punter's head in the first quarter. Marcus Herford then returned the ensuing free kick 74 yards for a touchdown - Kansas' second touchdown return of a kick in two games.
After McAnderson's first touchdown, two-way star Aqib Talib, an All-Big 12 cornerback, beat Travis Wilson on a 36-yard scoring pass. McAnderson scored on a 2-yard run a few minutes later, dragging Tim Richardson and Ryan Anderson into the end zone.
Reesing retired for the night after hitting Dexton Fields with a 25-yard scoring pass for a 39-0 lead late in the third period.
The Jayhawks scored their second safety when Max Onyegbule tackled quarterback Brian Babin in the end zone. Sharp scored on a 23-yard shovel pass from backup quarterback Kerry Meier and a 3-yard run, and Carmen Boyd-Anderson tacked on the final TD with a 2-yard run.
