CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) – Miami coach Al Golden says he has a no-excuses mentality. He didn’t make any after the Hurricanes opened their season with a loss.
He didn’t blame the NCAA-ordered suspensions of eight players who got snared in an extra-benefits investigation. He didn’t complain that another potential starter was left at home for breaking team rules.
Instead, Golden lamented that four turnovers and 10 penalties were Miami’s biggest downfalls in Monday night’s 32-24 loss at Maryland.
So Golden’s debut ended with a thud. And now Miami will take a four-game losing streak dating back to last season into a Sept. 17 game against Ohio State. Miami hasn’t lost five straight games since the late 1970s.
