NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -Cincinnati quarterback Dustin Grutza was wheeled off the field with an apparent leg injury after being sandwiched by three Oklahoma players in the fourth quarter of the Bearcats’ game Saturday.
Grutza briefly avoided a pass rush by defensive end Jeremy Beal before getting dragged down by linebacker Travis Lewis. Defensive tackle Cory Bennett then landed on top of the pile, and offensive lineman Trevor Canfield was called for a personal foul for knocking Bennett off him following the play.
Grutza had thrown for 218 yards on 19-for-29 passing with one touchdown and one interception. He also had a 1-yard touchdown run on a goal-line sneak.
Grutza moved back into the starting lineup this season after the NCAA denied Ben Mauk’s appeals for another season of eligibility. Mauk is still trying to fight in court for the chance to play again.
Tony Pike replaced Grutza.
