FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) – Tyler Wilson admitted to some pregame nervousness before Arkansas’ season opener with Missouri State, but he didn’t show it once the game started.
The Razorbacks’ junior quarterback was calm and collected in finishing 18 of 24 passing for 260 yards and a pair of touchdowns to Jarius Wright. Wilson had played sparingly the past two seasons as Ryan Mallett’s backup, but he won the starting job in fall camp and showed why against the Bears (0-1).
With his first game out of the way, Wilson’s next job is to keep No. 15 Arkansas’ talented group of receivers happy moving forward. Wright had the big game on Saturday, finishing with team highs of 6 catches and 108 yards receiving, and 11 Razorbacks caught passes in the win.
However, Joe Adams had just one catch for 11 yards and Wilson admitted a need to find the senior more in the future.
