STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) – Preseason-long races for the starting quarterback jobs at No. 2 Alabama and Penn State didn’t end in week 1.
Both teams won convincingly in their respective season openers. But neither Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban, nor Nittany Lions leader Joe Paterno, have still settled on a starter.
So Alabama and Penn State apparently will each start preparing for the prospect of playing – and facing – two quarterbacks when the marquee programs meet next week at Beaver Stadium.
Saban played both AJ McCarron and Philip Sims in Alabama’s 48-7 victory over Kent State. McCarron had better statistics, though Sims still appears to be in the running.
It’s a similar situation in Happy Valley, where Rob Bolden and Matt McGloin split time in the 41-7 win over Indiana State.
