ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) -Michigan football coach Rich Rodriguez says he won’t let a lawsuit over a failed Virginia condo project affect preparations for Saturday’s season opener.
The suit was filed in August in U.S. District Court in South Carolina against Rodriguez. It says he owes a bank $3.9 million for defaulting on a loan to build condos near Virginia Tech’s Lane Stadium.
Rodriguez said in a conference call Tuesday the case won’t hinder preparations to host Western Michigan.
Rodriguez adviser Mike Wilcox said in a statement that Rodriguez was a victim of a Ponzi scheme affecting “several other coaches and prominent individuals.” He says the transaction was initiated in 2004, when Rodriguez coached at West Virginia.
