ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) -Michigan football coach Rich Rodriguez says he won’t let a lawsuit over a failed Virginia condominium project affect preparations for Saturday’s season opener.
The suit was filed in August in U.S. District Court in South Carolina against Rodriguez and several others. It says they owe a bank $3.9 million for defaulting on a loan to build condos near Virginia Tech’s Lake Stadium.
Rodriguez said in a conference call Tuesday the case won’t hinder preparations to host Western Michigan.
Rodriguez adviser Mike Wilcox said the coach was a victim of a Ponzi scheme affecting “several other coaches and prominent individuals.” He says the transaction was initiated in 2004, when Rodriguez coached at West Virginia.
