COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -Ohio State players say if their rivals at Michigan are putting in extra time, they’re not alone.
So are the Buckeyes.
Anyone in college football who wants to excel is a workaholic, they say.
Some unnamed Michigan players have alleged that they’re being asked to exceed the maximum 20 hours that the NCAA permits student-athletes to devote to their sport each week.
But Ohio State captains Kurt Coleman and Doug Worthington say that’s what great teams do to achieve winning records and bowl trips. Greatness demands far more than 20 hours per week, they say.
Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel compares the issue to locking the doors to the library to keep medical school students out. When people want to excel, they’ll want to put in extra work, he said.
