LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - The Wyoming defense dominated the field today (Saturday) in Laramie as the Cowboys opened their season with a 23-3 win over Virginia.
Devin Moore rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown, and had another 47 yards receiving for the Cowboys.
The Cowboys' defense held the Cavaliers to just 110 yards in total offense, including just 7 yards on the ground.
Moore scored on a 49-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter to put Wyoming ahead 20-3.
Three plays later, Julius Stinson intercepted Virginia's Jameel Sewell for the second time in the game. That set up a drive that allowed Billy Vinnedge to kick a 39-yard field goal for the final score.
Hoost Marsh led Wyoming with 73 yards receiving, including a 48-yard pass from Karsten Sween late in the first quarter. Sween completed 25 of 34 passes for 253 yards.
Virginia's Sewell was 11 of 23 for 82 yards. Staton Jobe led the Cavaliers with 17 yards on two catches, while Cedric Peerman had 18 yards on seven carries to lead Virginia's running game.
