CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -Mark Cunningham threw three touchdowns to lead Austin Peay to a 43-19 win over Bethel College.
Austin Peay’s offense set the tempo on their opening drive when Cunningham found Lanis Frederick from 21 yards out with 11:17 in the first quarter.
Less than three minutes later, freshman return man Terrence Holt burst through the Wildcat coverage on a punt to post a 75-yard touchdown, increasing Austin Peay’s lead to 13.
The Governors (1-0) headed into the locker room with a comfortable 33-13 lead over Bethel (1-1).
The second half also belonged to the Govs as Cunningham racked up 151 yards on 10-of-13 completed passes with three touchdowns and one interception.
Frederick accounted for 70 of Cunningham’s yards and two touchdowns on four receptions.
Senior running back Chris Fletcher, Austin Peay’s all-time career rushing leader, juked his way to 131 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries.
