STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) – Mississippi State usually spends a lot of time in film study during the week, trying to dissect the strengths and weaknesses of the upcoming opponent.
The problem is this time it might be useless for Thursday’s season opener against Memphis at the Liberty Bowl.
The Tigers are coming off a 1-11 season, and the result was an understandable overhaul of the roster. Few familiar faces return on either offense or defense, making No. 20 Mississippi State’s film study an inexact science at best. That means Bulldogs’ coach Dan Mullen has had to focus on his own team.
Mississippi State had its best season in a decade in 2010, finishing 9-4. With 15 starters returning, the Bulldogs have high expectations.
