JACKSON, Miss. (AP) -Southwestern Athletic Conference Commissioner Duer Sharp says all 10 league teams will wear a helmet sticker this season in memory of Steve McNair.
The No. 9 sticker commemorates what McNair did to raise the visibility of the conference while playing at Alcorn State. He finished third in Heisman Trophy voting and brought national attention to Lorman, Miss., before becoming the No. 3 overall pick in the NFL draft.
The 36-year-old Mount Olive native was killed July 4 in a murder-suicide committed by Sahel Kazemi, in Nashville, Tenn.
McNair also will be remembered Saturday when Alcorn State travels to Southern Miss and other commemorations will take place when the Braves begin their home schedule Oct. 10.
