MACOMB, Ill. (AP) -Patrick Stoudamire intercepted a pass in the fourth overtime to seal a 29-26 victory Thursday for Western Illinois over South Dakota State.
South Dakota State (0-1, Great West) trailed 13-6 with less than a minute to go in regulation before quarterback Ryan Berry connected with Colin Cochart for a one-yard touchdown pass with 38 seconds left.
The teams traded scores in overtime until Western Illinois (1-0, Gateway) – leading on a 27-yard field goal by Taylor Rowan – finally managed to stop the Jackrabbits with Stoudamire’s interception.
Berry was 16-of-39 for 139 yards and two touchdowns for South Dakota State. But he also threw three interceptions and was sacked three times.
Western Illinois quarterback Matt Barr was 18-for-24 for 128 yards and one interception. He had one touchdown and was sacked three times.
