STORRS, Conn. (AP) – Bob Diaco says he’s not nervous as he begins his first season as a collegiate head coach, just excited to see where his UConn team is fewer than nine months after he was hired to turn around the Husky program.
Perennial power BYU is looking to provide more than a measuring stick for the former Notre Dame defensive coordinator Friday when the Cougars and Heisman candidate quarterback Taysom Hill visit East Hartford for a nationally televised game.
UConn is coming off back-to-back 3-9 seasons and is picked to finish ninth in the 11-team American Athletic Conference. BYU has had back-to-back eight win campaigns and is hoping to avoid a second-straight season opening upset on the East Coast. The Cougars lost last year at Virginia.
