RUSTON, La. (AP) -Former Louisiana Tech All-American wide receiver Tommy Spinks, who teamed with Terry Bradshaw to form one of the most feared tandems in college football, died at his home in Arlington, Texas, following a short illness. He was 58.
Spinks, who played for the Bulldogs from 1966 through 1969, helped lead Tech to the Gulf States Conference championship his senior season.
``Tommy was a Tech legend,'' athletic director Jim Oakes said. ``He epitomized class as a football player, a businessman and a friend to so many of us.''
Spinks, who died Sunday, graduated from Louisiana Tech as the program's all-time leading receiver. He set two records in the 1968 Grantland Rice Bowl, catching 12 passes for 167 yards.
A memorial service for the Shreveport native will be Tuesday, Sept. 4, in Arlington.
