COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -Since 1943, fans have always known where to find the annual showdown between Michigan and Ohio State: Right at the end of the schedule.
With the Big Ten expanding to 12 teams in 2011 and also going to divisional play and a conference championship game, that sacred spot is no longer a certainty.
Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith says that in the new Big Ten, Ohio State-Michigan might not be played in November and be the last regular-season game on each team’s schedule.
If Ohio State and Michigan end up in the same division, it would eliminate the possibility of the Buckeyes and Wolverines playing for a conference title as they have so many times before. If they’re in opposite divisions, it might diminish their annual meeting.
