AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -Texas fans have heard it before: John Chiles is one of the Longhorns’ best athletes and the coaches want to get him the ball.
It hasn’t happened yet. Special plays designed to get the backup quarterback off the bench last year were clunkers and scrapped by midseason.
A position change could be the difference in 2009. No longer waiting on the sideline behind Colt McCoy, Chiles is now catching passes and making an impact in No. 2 Texas’ deep and talented receiving corps.
The move seems to be paying off. Coach Mack Brown recently listed Chiles among the top five receivers in a rotation the Longhorns hope will go eight deep.
