ATHENS, Ga. (AP) -There’s a new leader in Georgia’s search to replace Knowshon Moreno.
Coach Mark Richt says Richard Samuel is “a solid number one” on the Bulldogs’ depth chart at tailback.
Caleb King entered preseason drills as the leader in the competition to replace Moreno, who became the Denver Broncos’ first-round draft choice after becoming only the second back in Georgia history to rush for 1,000 yards in back-to-back seasons.
King has missed time with a hamstring injury, leaving Samuel, a sophomore, and surprising redshirt freshman Carlton Thomas to work with the first-team offense.
The tailback race is one of the key position battles for the No. 13 Bulldogs, who will play at No. 9 Oklahoma State in their Sept. 5 opener.
