MOVING IN ADVANCE FOR WEEKEND OF AUG. 15-16:
FBC–FLORIDA’S QUEST
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Not only do the defending national champion Florida Gators have quarterback Tim Tebow back, they’ve got just about every other starter returning, too. So forget the cliches about taking the season one game at a time. Even the players are talking about perfection. By Mark Long. AP Photos.

BC-FBC–BCS-CONGRESS
WASHINGTON – Several members of Congress are pushing bills aimed at getting college football to switch to a playoff system for determining its national champion, and one senator even wants the Justice Department to investigate the Bowl Championship Series for antitrust violations. But BCS opponents face a tough sell in Congress, because the current system favors schools in heavily populated states from Massachusetts to California. By Frederic J. Frommer.
FBC–BYU-BCS HOPES
PROVO, Utah – If everything turns out just right for BYU, this year will turn out a lot like 1984 – when the Cougars beat every team on the schedule and then the college football system to claim a national title. The biggest similarity between now and back then is that BYU is opening the year well behind the favorites with a schedule that will either launch the Cougars into contention or quickly take them out of it. FBC–TENNESSEE-KIFFIN
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Lane Kiffin’s words have gotten a lot of exposure in his first off season as Tennessee coach. Now it’s time to prove that he and his Volunteers are worth the attention. The 33-year-old former Oakland Raiders coach inherited a team that finished 5-7 in 2008. Since then he’s brought in a heralded recruiting class, made national headlines with jabs against top foe Florida and earned the respect of his players. By Beth Rucker. AP Photos
