SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) -Notre Dame Brian Kelly says he’s hard to impress. And when he saw star receiver Michael Floyd on tape the first couple of times, he considered him overhyped and at times average, a player who ran undisciplined routes.
All that’s changed now. Kelly has watched Floyd grasp his new spread offense and become one of the team’s leaders. In fact, he says Floyd has worked harder than any player he’s coached in 20 years to improve his game.
With last year’s star Golden Tate off the NFL, Floyd is the Irish’s go-to receiver with 92 catches in two seasons.
And Kelly’s initial appraisal of Floyd’s game under former coach Charlie Weis didn’t bother the wide receiver at all. During media day Tuesday, he called it positive criticism.
