FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas coach Bret Bielema says freshman Austin Allen has emerged as the Razorbacks' No. 2 quarterback after two weeks of preseason practice.
Bielema said last week the competition between Allen, the younger brother of starter Brandon Allen, and freshman Rafe Peavey was in ''full throttle.''
However, after Austin Allen finished 10-of-21 passing for 86 yards and a touchdown during Saturday's scrimmage, Bielema said the redshirt freshman has ''declared himself'' as the top option as his older brother's backup.
Brandon Allen was 19 of 28 for 218 yards and three touchdowns in the scrimmage for the Razorbacks, who open the season at Auburn on Aug. 30.
