MOVING IN ADVANCE FOR WEEKEND OF AUG. 18-19:
BC-FBC--THE BCS MYTH.
eate unrealistic expectations and don't necessarily bring in big money that those $13 million BCS price tags seem to suggest. By National Writer Eddie Pells.
FBC--ON FOOTBALL-MONSTER TEAMS.
LOS ANGELES - When Pac-10 football coaches gathered here for media day, their whimpering drowned out the jet engines at nearby LAX. How, they cried, are we supposed to beat Southern California? You'd think the Pac-10 had decreed that USC would be given five downs this season. Or that the Trojans' field goals - not that they'll have to settle for field goals, mind you - would be worth four points. ``When you watch SC play, it's a horror film if you're an opponent,'' Arizona State coach Dennis Erickson said. Every horror film needs a monster. And so does college football. Love 'em or hate 'em, the Trojans are hoping to become the latest in a long line of monster teams. By College Football Writer Andrew Bagnato.

FBC--THE BOISE AFFECT
UNDATED - With a hook-n-lateral, a Statue of Liberty and a postgame proposal, Boise State pulled off one of the most wildly entraining upsets in college football history and helped clear the way for the next upstart to break through the Bowl Championship Series' glass ceiling. By College Football Writer Ralph D. Russo.

FBC--COMPETING AGAINST PROS.
CORAL GABLES, Fla. - New Miami coach Randy Shannon has a simple philosophy about how the Hurricanes coexist in the South Florida football landscape with the Miami Dolphins. ``Football fans are football fans,'' he says. There's plenty of cities in America where college teams compete with NFL clubs for attention, but largely, like Shannon says, there's enough fans to appease everyone. By Tim Reynolds.
FBC--HIGH SCHOOL TO COLLEGE.
DENTON, Texas - Ever since Notre Dame's high-profile experiment with Gerry Faust fizzled after the 1985 season, college programs haven't risked hiring high school coaches as head coaches. Until now. Of 119 Division I-A head coaches, Todd Dodge of North Texas is the only one to come straight from the high school ranks. By Jeff Carlton.
