IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) -Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says there’s no timetable for the return of sophomore running back Brandon Wegher, who has left the team for undisclosed personal issues.
Ferentz did say he’s cautiously optimistic Wegher will rejoin the Hawkeyes this season.
Wegher, who rushed for 641 yards and eight touchdowns last season. He left the team last Sunday.
Wegher entered fall camp listed as a backup to Adam Robinson. With Wegher’s status up in the air and reserve Jewel Hampton set to serve a one-game suspension after an offseason arrest, it looks like Robinson will start Iowa’s season opener against Eastern Illinois on Sept. 4.
