The second-year coach grew weary of poring through game tapes to figure out what went wrong in 2013, when the Boilermakers were 1-11. He's ready for a fresh start and goes into the season with renewed hope.
He has an incumbent quarterback in Danny Etling and a capable challenger in freshman David Blough. He has a play-making running back in Akeem Hunt. He has a bigger offensive line and a defense ready to take the next step.
