ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) – Navy intends to get back the Commander-In-Chief’s Trophy this year.
Coach Ken Niumatalolo says losing to Air Force the trophy that represents superiority among the service academies “was like having someone ripping your heart out.”
Navy considers last season to be a disappointment, even though its 9-4 record included wins over Notre Dame and Army.
The Midshipmen return 29 of the 34 players listed on the final 2010 offensive depth chart, including eight starters. But Navy lost double-threat quarterback Ricky Dobbs, who scored 14 touchdowns and threw for 13 scores as a senior.
Dobbs will be replaced by Kriss Proctor, who will be directing a triple-option attack that last year ranked sixth in the nation in yards rushing.
