EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) – Michigan State linebacker Lawrence Thomas is expected to miss at least a week with a bruised shoulder.
Thomas, a freshman, was perhaps the most heralded member of coach Mark Dantonio’s latest recruiting class. The Detroit’s Renaissance High School product was a member of The Associated Press Top 100 at the beginning of last season.
Michigan State needs to replace two standout linebackers. All-American Greg Jones and Eric Gordon were both seniors last season.
The Spartans open the season Sept. 2 against Youngstown State.
