STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) – Joe Paterno remained hospitalized Tuesday morning after a receiver ran into him at Penn State practice this week. The 84-year-old coach is expected to be released later in the day.
Doctors were evaluating Paterno’s right shoulder and pelvis after receiver Devon Smith blindsided the Hall of Famer on Sunday. Smith was running a route on the offensive side of the field while Paterno was watching the defense.
The team physician has said JoePa probably will not need surgery.
Practice resumed this week as scheduled. The school said Paterno held a coaches’ meeting by phone from the hospital, and the Nittany Lions were scheduled for two practices Tuesday.
Paterno said in a statement Monday he expected to return to practice soon, and that he was doing fine.
