KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin has stressed the importance of simulating game conditions for his Volunteers. Now they’re getting hands-on experience.
The Vols scrimmaged on Saturday, the first day they were allowed to dress in full pads during the fall practice period.
Players say it didn’t feel much different from the four practices held during the four-day acclamation period mandated by the NCAA. They’ve been practicing at full speed and doing some hard hitting even without their full pads.
The offense and particularly the running game dominated the scrimmage with sophomore Tauren Poole gaining nearly 150 yards and scoring on 75 and 44-yard runs.
Jonathan Crompton completed his first nine passes and connected with Gerald Jones on a 67-yard pass that reached the 3-yard line.
