AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – Texas is set to report to training camp for the 2011 season and coach Mack Brown isn’t giving any hints about who he expects will be the Longhorns’ starting quarterback.
Brown says every position is open when the Longhorns report for practice on Thursday. Last year’s starter, Garrett Gilbert, threw 17 interceptions as Texas fell to 5-7 in 2010, the Longhorns’ first losing season in 13 years.
A junior, Gilbert is now battling with sophomore Case McCoy and freshmen Connor Wood and David Ash to be the starter.
Speaking at the Austin Sports Commission Texas Gridiron Kickoff, Brown said he’s excited to see who emerges from the pack.
Texas opens the season Sept. 3 at home against Rice.
