AUBURN, Ala. (AP) – Defending national champion Auburn returned to the newly renovated practice fields with an abundance of new faces and returnees seeking bigger roles.
Coach Gene Chizik says the Tigers had a “very enthusiastic, very energetic” opening practice Wednesday night. He praised the newcomers’ athleticism and focus.
That group includes highly regarded freshman quarterback Kiehl Frazier, who is battling for the starting job with Clint Moseley and Barrett Trotter. All 24 signees have qualified but one of the biggest, linebacker Kris Frost, is not on the roster for camp while recovering from a shoulder injury.
The group also includes two SEC transfer running backs. Corey Grant comes in from Alabama and Mike Blakely from Florida.
.Chizik says the Tigers have about 72 scholarship players, well below the limit.
