TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -Florida’s attorney general says the NCAA must release copies of its response to Florida State’s appeal of penalties stemming from academic violations.
Attorney General Bill McCollum said failure to release contents of the NCAA letter to the school explaining why it intends to strip it of wins in 10 sports, including victories achieved by football coach Bobby Bowden, could result in criminal penalties of up a one year in prison and a $1,000 fine, or both.
The letter, which was written Friday, was addressed to NCAA president Myles Brand.
The Associated Press is among several news organizations that have requested copies from Florida State of the NCAA’s response to an appeal.
