COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – South Carolina quarterback Stephen Garcia will be allowed to take part in summer workouts.
In a joint statement, athletic director Eric Hyman and coach Steve Spurrier said Garcia would return on a probationary basis and must adhere to confidential guidelines to play this fall.
Garcia has been suspended from the team since April 6 after an incident at a life skills seminar for South Carolina athletes. It was the fifth suspension of Garcia’s career at South Carolina.
The school said Garcia’s status would be reevaluated before fall camp opens. The first workout is Aug. 2.
Spurrier says he hopes Garcia can do the right things and represent the school in a “first-class manner.”
