BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) Graduate transfer quarterback Davis Webb has officially joined California, giving the Golden Bears an experienced option to replace No. 1 overall NFL draft pick Jared Goff.
Coach Sonny Dykes announced Wednesday that Webb has enrolled at Cal and will be eligible to play his senior season in 2016 after graduating from Texas Tech.
Webb played 23 games and made 14 starts at Texas Tech and will be expected to compete for the starting job. Cal offensive coordinator Jake Spavital worked under Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury and runs a system familiar to Webb.
Webb completed 61.4 percent of his passes for 5,557 yards, 46 touchdowns and 22 interceptions at Texas Tech. He spent last year as a backup and decided to transfer for his final season.
