TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – A sheriff’s office has released surveillance video that shows Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston leaving a supermarket without paying for crab legs and crawfish.
The video released Thursday by the Leon County Sheriff’s Office shows the Florida State quarterback picking up the seafood at a Tallahassee Publix on April 29. He then casually left the store behind a uniformed sheriff’s deputy who was working off-duty as a security guard.
Store managers reported him and deputies went to his apartment. He told them he forgot to pay.
He was issued a civil citation requiring him to perform 20 hours of community service, which he has completed. He was briefly suspended from the Florida State baseball team. He is a relief pitcher. Winston also issued a public apology.
