TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) – Alabama coach Nick Saban is hoping football will help Tuscaloosa cope.
Saban said Monday night the season “will be an escape for a lot of people who have had a lot of heartbreak.” He participated in a two-hour radio show “Hey Coach … Helping Out” at Bryant-Denny Stadium to raise money for the UA’s Acts of Kindness Fund and other organizations involved in relief from the April 27 tornado.
In addition to Saban, more than 30 players and several other Crimson Tide coaches and school officials attended the memorial service for offensive tackle Aaron Douglas in Knoxville, Tenn., Sunday. Douglas was found dead last Thursday in Fernandina Beach, Fla.
Also on the show were Tuscaloosa mayor Walt Maddox, men’s basketball coach Anthony Grant and gymnastics coach Sarah Patterson.
