ATHENS, Ga. (AP) – Georgia running back Washaun Ealey is leaving the Bulldogs.
The school announced Monday that it granted Ealey his unconditional release to transfer to another school, a move that wasn’t surprising after he was suspended twice in the past year.
Ealey led Georgia in rushing last year with 811 yards and 11 touchdowns. But the Bulldogs had their first losing season since 1996 and their top signee was running back Isaiah Crowell. Coach Mark Richt says he expects the freshman to compete for playing time right away.
Richt says in a statement that after several conversations with Ealey in the past few weeks, they both decided it would be in the player’s best interest to continue his career with another school.
