KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The University of Tennessee has hired Bob Welton as director of player personnel after he spent the past nine years as a scout with the NFL's Cleveland Browns.
Coach Butch Jones announced the hiring Tuesday, saying that Welton's experience in the NFL and as a head coach will be key for the Vols.
Welton had been a college scout with Cleveland since 2004 with his first two years as the Browns' BLESTO scout covering the Midwest. Welton also coached Coloma (Mich.) High to an undefeated season and the school's first playoff victory, and he coached at South Haven High in Michigan as well.
