BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) – Former LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger says he believes he proved during a workout Wednesday that his recovery from reconstructive left knee surgery won’t stop him from competing for an NFL job this summer.
Wearing shoulder pads and a helmet, Mettenberger threw dozens of passes out of drop backs and even rollouts during LSU’s pro day. His receivers included NFL prospects Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry.
Mettenberger tore his anterior cruciate ligament during LSU’s final regular-season game Nov. 29. He had surgery in January.
Less than four months later, LSU trainer Jack Marucci says tests show Mettenberger’s repaired left leg is about 95 percent as strong as his healthy leg.
Numerous NFL personnel attended LSU pro day. Saints coach Sean Payton says he was impressed by Mettenberger.
